Karl-Heinz Boska joined the Kradschützen-Ersatz-Batallion "Ellwangen" in September 1939, serving with the 1.Kompanie. He joined the division in June 1940 and served with the 3/Aufklärungsabteilung as a motorcycle driver in the western campaigns. After a promotion to SS-Sturmann on November 1st, 1940, he stayed with the Kompanie when it became part of the new Kradschützen Batallion in February 1941. In this unit he served as a Zugführer and was promoted to SS-Unterscharführer on September 1, 1941. After attending a course at SS-Junkerschule, he was assigned to 7/Langemarck as a Zugführer. When this unit became the second half of the Panzer Regiment in October 1942, Boska became a Zugführer in II.Abteilung and then II.Abteilungsadjutant. It was at this position that he won the Knight's Cross for combat action during the second week of November 1943 in the area of Schewtschenkiwka. After the death of von Reitzenstein, Boska became 6.Kompanie Chief until the last weeks of the war when he replaced Dieter Kesten after the death of the latter in Austria, thus becoming the last II.Abteilungskommandeur. |
