The Author in a Canadian Forces Leopard MBT

Welcome!

My name is Dan Reinbold and I have been interested in Military History for many years. I attended the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada from 1989-1996 in the Bachelor and Masters of Arts programs. I received my degrees in Military History with specialty in 19th Century American Military History, but my true love has always been WW-II German history.

In January 1997, I decided to put together this homepage after discovering that there was very little specific information on the Waffen SS and in particular the 2nd SS Panzer Division "Das Reich" available on the Internet. While I have always been interested in the many facets of the German Armed Forces of World War Two, the Waffen SS in particular has always fascinated me. My aim is to provide information dealing specifically with Das Reich and this will hopefully compliment the large amount information about Germany during World War Two already available on the World Wide Web.

The majority of my research material comes from data collected at the National Archives in Washington DC and Suitland Maryland. Many people have asked why I have put together a website on such a controversial topic. The basic answer is that I firmly believe that just because a subject is not "politically-correct" does not mean that it should not be studied. The Waffen SS was part of one of the most infamous organizations ever encountered, and it is only through a thorough examnination can one understand the political and social motivations behind one of the most sucessful fighting formations in the history of warfare.

This website is a fantastic learning experience for me and I hope it is the same for you. I hope you enjoy these pages and if you have questions, corrections or comments please contact me.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my little corner of the Internet!
